Madison Gaona
President
Contact Madison
My name is Madison Gaona and I have the privilege of serving as the 2020-2021 CHLSA President.
I am originally from San Antonio, Texas. I attended The University of Texas at Austin for undergrad where I obtained a degree in Government. I am a staunch Texas Longhorns fan. In my free time, you will find me at any Texas sporting event – football, basketball, baseball, softball – you name it, I am cheering on the Horns!
As CHLSA President, I represent the organization at formal events, preside over general membership meetings and board meetings, and serve as a formal liaison between CHLSA and legal employers, alumni, and the law school administration. I collaborate with the presidents of our fellow affinity groups and oversee the driven individuals that make up the remainder of our CHLSA board.
At Texas Law, I have also held leadership roles in Women’s Law Caucus, served as a staff editor on the TEXAS JOURNAL OF OIL, GAS, AND ENERGY LAW, and represented the law school in multiple advocacy competitions. Outside of Texas Law, I remain involved in the Lloyd Lochridge Inn of Courts, football and dodgeball intramurals, and domestic violence pro bono initiatives.
Upon graduation, I will be joining the Disputes group of Norton Rose Fulbright, where I hope to build a career in commercial litigation. I am currently interested in contractual disputes, pharmaceuticals, and products.

Daniel Alvarado

Contact Daniel
My name is Daniel Alvarado, and I am the CHLSA treasurer for this next year. I grew up in El Paso, Texas, and completed my undergraduate mechanical engineering degree at Texas Tech University. After graduating, I took two years off, with one spent recovering from surgery, and the other working as a mechanical engineer at a NASA Propulsion Facility. Although I enjoyed my time there, law school has been my dream since 5th grade, and I knew last year was the perfect time to start. I spend most of my free time playing with my puppy, Newton, working out, reading, trying new food, and watching soccer. I am excited to see what this year has in store and look forward to serving on the board as your treasurer.

Andreina (Andy) Escobar
Firm and Alumni Relations Co-Chair
Contact Andy
Hi y'all! My name is Andreina Escobar, but most people call me Andie considering that almost no one (except for latinxs) can pronounce my name. I'm originally from Venezuela and moved 6 years ago to Texas, so I already consider myself an honorary Texan. Whenever I'm not in the Tom Clarke lounge pretending I don't have responsibilities, you can find me either running, baking or watching Grey's Anatomy. I am excited to get to know all of you and hope to be back in Austin in the Spring! (And yes, sadly no one told me I was wearing my cap backwards!).

Hi everybody! My name's Isabel, I'm a 2L, and I am CHLSA's Latina Law Caucus Chair. This year I will be supporting y'all with professional development and social events to help keep our community close even if we're far apart. My interests outside of law school are currently spoiling my cat Xochitl and experimental baking, so if you like cat pictures or pictures of poorly baked bread, feel free to check out my Instagram story. I am also active in the Board of Advocates and the Public Defense Group, so if you have any questions about trial advocacy at UT and public defense as a career path, please let me know and I would be happy to answer or direct you to resources that can help.

Josue Teniente
Scholarship Chair
Contact Josue
Hey y’all! My name’s Josue, and I’m the Scholarship Chair for CHLSA this
year! I’m a rising 2L with an interest in immigration and family law. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in History and Sociology. As an undergrad, I mentored incoming freshmen about general issues, like finding good classes, navigating the resources of the University, and connecting with professors.
This past summer, I worked with the Equal Justice Center, a non-profit law firm helping workers get their unpaid wages, so if you’re interested in public interest or just have general questions, feel free to stop me to say hi and chat (from 6 feet away, of course). I look forward to seeing y’all around!

Jocelyne Torres
Banquet Co-Chair
Hi, I'm Jocelyne Torres! I am CHLSA's co-banquet chair. I am a 2L from Houston, TX. I majored in Political Science with minors in History and Gender Studies from the University of Houston - Downtown. In my free time I love to watch movies and tv shows (recently binged insecure and loved it), listen to reggaeton, and following along to youtube workout videos.
I am interested in immigration law after seeing the difficulties my parents have gone through (and still going through) in setting America as their permanent home. I look forward to being a part of the board and building community within the organization.

Hey, everyone! I’m Samantha Acuña and I’m CHLSA’s
Communications Coordinator and Banquet Co-Chair. I’m a 2L from
Brownsville, TX, and I'm looking forward to being on the board this year.
During my time as an undergraduate, I worked with Upward Bound, a federal grant program, servicing three schools in the Rio Grande Valley and at the Department of Education’s Office of Migrant Education focusing on helping k-12 migrant students and migrant students in college. After law school, I hope to continue serving at-risk students and other underserved populations within my community. If I’m not reading, you can usually find me working on my art, which includes my canvases and coloring books, or watching reality shows.

Carlotta Garza-Kilcullen

My name is Carlotta Garza-Kilcullen, and I serve as the Fajita Fiesta Chair for CHLSA. Usually Fajita Fiesta is a big event where we prepare and sell delicious fajitas in the Atrium as our biggest fundraiser. Although Fajita Fiesta will have to look different this year, I am excited to plan around the challenges and hopefully host a great event. I am originally from Austin, TX, and in my free time I enjoy cooking with my husband, doing yoga, and singing karaoke.
