CHLSA

OUR MISSION

CHLSA TAKES PRIDE IN BEING THE ONLY LATINX AFFINITY GROUP AT TEXAS LAW. CHLSA USES THIS UNIQUE POSITION IN INNOVATIVE WAYS TO HELP ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF LATINX LAW STUDENTS IN LAW SCHOOL AND BEYOND.
CHLSA helps law students build life-long personal and professional relationships by providing opportunities for students to interact beyond the classroom.

Since it's establishment in 1976, the Chicano/Hispanic Law Students’ Association (CHLSA) has strived to meet the needs of its current students and the multicultural needs of the State through non-partisan goals, which include:
  • Advance diversity in the legal profession through the recruitment and promotion of Latinx law students through activities such as, but not limited to forums, panels, lectures, banquets, raising and providing scholarship funds, and speaking to prospective Latinx law students.
  • Expanding opportunities for Latinx students at The University of Texas School of Law.
  • Provide community service to the Latinx community at large.
  • Coordinate programming with our sister organization, the Texas Hispanic Journal of Law and Policy (THJ), and other organizations that recruit and promote greater diversity in the legal profession.
  • More specifically, but without limiting the purposes stated above, CHLSA is organized and is operated for the purpose of advancing these goals within The University of Texas School of Law and the State of Texas.
